1. The super crunchy alternatives to lettuce: Standard lettuce does not have enough nutrients in it. You are far better off focusing on alternatives like kale, chard, mustard greens, etc. Although it may take a while to get used to the new textures and tastes, it will be well worth it.

2. Mushrooms of the cremini family: These types of mushrooms provide a huge bang for your buck and the best part is that they are very low in calories. Essentially, they occupy a lot of space in your stomach while not increasing caloric load to any appreciable degree.

4. Blends of lots of berries: By having blends of berries instead of focusing on one type of berry, you will get more nutrition per calorie. And the more nutrition you can get, the healthier you will be and the easier it will be to lose weight.

5. Non whole grain carbs: Whole grain carbs are overrated. In fact, most people do not need whole grain carbs in their diet when they are not active. You should try to get the bulk of your carb intake from legumes and beans, the slowest digesting carbs you can get.

6. Plant saturated fats: Yes, plant saturated fats are good for you despite what some experts claim. You see, plant saturated fat is structurally different from animal saturated fat. In fact, it can be considered a super food. I recommend coconut since it goes well with so many different dishes.

7. The oat alternatives: Oats aren’t bad for you, per se. But you can get much more nutrition by focusing on blends. Try to find a blend that has barley, rye, spelt or any other combination of grains.

Now you are far better off not focusing on single foods because the body does better with wide varieties of foods. However, try to incorporate the above foods as much as possible!
