Useful Tips For Purchasing The Perfect Smoothie Maker
If you have never used a smoothie maker before, you may be wondering what the ‘big deal’ is and why getting one of these machines would be beneficial. In actual fact most of the liquidisers or blenders we use at home will not make smoothies and blended drinks as well as a machine especially designed for the purpose. One other factor that is often not taken into consideration is that using a machine that is not designed for making smoothies will fail after a fairly short period of use and will need replacing and so will prove more expensive than buying the right machine for the job in the first instance.
Here is a list of seven key features which I believe will help you get the best possible model when looking for a smoothie maker. Of course there may be some points on my list that will not be vital to you. There may also be points that you want to add. Whatever happens, these pointers will be of assistance when you are making your own shortlist.
1. Power. Look for a model with a good, powerful motor. About 500W is the minimum for a 1.25 litre jug size, to ensure that your machine is up to the job and will last you a good long while. If you need a machine with an even larger capacity blender goblet, you would be well advised to look for a machine with a motor size of at least 700w. Cord storage is a neat feature that keeps everything tidy when the smoothie maker is not in use.
2. Speed. You will find it a huge advantage to buy a machine with more than one mixing speed. Five speed settings is more than adequate but another great feature to look for is a pulse setting that will enable extra power to be delivered to crush ice or blend firmer vegetables such as carrot into a smooth drink.
3. Non-slip feet. This really isn’t ‘rocket science’! If you do not want the machine moving about whilst in use, this feature is vital.
4. A glass jug. Plastic scratches, so glass or very hard polycarbonate is much better. Once a plastic jug becomes scratched, it is more difficult to clean effectively and it is possible for bacteria to develop in the scratches; any glass jug will be easily cleaned by putting it into your dishwasher.
5. Easy clean removable parts. Life is too short to fiddle with difficult to clean items so make sure that the tap and blades are easily removed and easy to clean. In an ideal world, the model you choose should have entirely dishwasher-safe components.
6. A filter or strainer. This is the finishing touch to the perfect smoothie for me, a filter that will remove any unwanted pips or seeds.
7. A model with a stirring stick. Choosing a model with this feature means that you can stir your smoothie or tamp down the contents for better blending without having to remove the lid first. Obviously, this process is done with the motor switched OFF!
By taking time to jot down the exact features you are looking for in a smoothie maker will ensure that the model you get is exactly right for you. If you are absolutely sure what features you want, you will be in an excellent position to snap up a sale bargain if one presents itself. This will ensure you shop efficiently without wasting time and will definitely help to save you money too.
