Not All Home Water Filters Remove As Many Contaminates As Others
A lot of people think that if they buy a little faucet connecting water filter for their kitchen that they are doing the best they can to make sure their tap water is very safe to drink. Some of these filters do a good job of filtering out some contaminates, but some of them can also need batteries, develop leaks and have filters that need to be changed very frequently. The same can be said for some of the counter top home water filters as well. This just goes to show that not all water filters work in the same way and some are much more convenient and functional than others.
When you purchase a home water filter, there is no sense in purchasing one that does not remove the largest percentage of contaminates. Some filters remove as much and more than 99.99% of all contaminates and that is the best investment. Make sure you check the number of gallons that the filter will clean as well. Some can clean as much as 6000 gallons before they need replacing. You want a water filter that does not use electricity or batteries because in an emergency situation you might not have either. Find out how economical the filters are to replace and how easy the unit is to refill and to clean.
Some people think that they can get a home water filter and that they are a nice thing to have, but not really necessary. However, today more people are beginning to believe that they are necessary not just because of the old threats like bacteria that can contaminate water, but also because of new threats like drug residue. People takes more pharmaceutical drugs than ever before and we know that some drugs are harmful to some people if they are not prescribed for you specifically. Human waste contains drug residue and believe it or not, all of the drugs like mood altering medications and sex hormones are not completely removed even after water treatment.
Sometimes well water can be perfectly safe to drink if it is in a remote area where exposure to pesticides or animal waste is pretty unlikely. However, if you live near fields that are farmed and pesticides are used, those can contaminate the ground water. If you live near fields where animals graze, that can contaminate the ground water too which eventually can get into your well water. When a well has been exposed to fecal matter either from humans or animals, you well can develop E-coli or Coliforms in the water that can be very hazardous to your health and cause illness and even death.
When all of these issues are taken into consideration at once, if you are going to buy a home water filter, it only makes the most sense to invest in the best one available to begin with. You will be more satisfied in the long run and have more peace of mind right from the start. After all, peace of mind about the water you are drinking is the sole purpose of having a water filter at home and having one that is second rate is not much better than not having one at all.
